Car no.120 rediscovered in the history of the Selangor GP...1974 Datsun 160J SSS KP710 Violet Turbo

A very happy moment for me in this month of November 2014 was discovering a picture of car no.120 in battle action at the 2.1 mile racetrack of Batu Tiga, Shah Alam during the 6-7th April 1974 Selangor GP of Malaysia.

I did mention earlier on that in those days of the early seventies, the Selangor GP or popularly known as the Malaysian Grand Prix, was made up of two races annually, the first event in April and the second in September.

I was jubilant to come across this photo in searching for old photos of the 1974 Datsun Violet. It was an advertisement made by Datsun(Tan Chong & Sons Motors Co. Sdn. Bhd.) placed in a newspaper(The Straits Times) back in 10th April 1974 showing the aftermath of the April 1974 Selangor GP. Refer to link below (with terms and conditions of site to be agreed upon):

And just to prove a point figure 1 below shows #120 which I took back in 1993!

Back to the race in April,

And the category of these cars were called "Improved Touring Cars"

It would seems that 2nd place was won by Abdul Malek with 4th place taken by Kunimitsu Takahashi who struggled with an earlier problem and caught up with the field while breaking the lap record!

1st place was taken by Harvey Yap in an Escort BDA with 3rd by Ian Grey in a Porsche.

The final battle will (have taken) take place on 7th and 8th of September 1974!...
